Medicare & Prescription Drug Coverage

The federal Medicare program is complex and can be confusing when you start reviewing your options at retirement or when you become Medicare-eligible. You may also be assisting your parents, grandparents or friends with this important decision.

Medicare Basics

Medicare is an entitlement program that provides health coverage for retirees and individuals that are disabled.

There are different approaches for coverage once you are eligible and apply for Original Medicare. Original Medicare includes Part A – (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance).

Individuals can choose either Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage (Part C) for health coverage. With Original Medicare, you will also need to decide if you need drug coverage (Part D) and a Medicare supplement that coordinates with Medicare.
